Team Roaster Luleå Basket
Dennis Pihl, Head Coach Stefan Lindblom, Assistant coach
Last year we surprised a lot of people in Sweden by playing far better than what was expected of us. We finished fifth in the regular season and was one game away from a spot in the Semi Final in the play-offs. This might not sound very impressive, but being the second shortest team in the league and playing without any National Team players or imports, this was a good result for us. Since last season we have worked hard on our roster and managed to re-sign almost all our players, and on top of that landed three high-quality players to give us more height and more experience. Two of our “new” players are former Luleå Basket players – local forward Frida Grahn and american forward Sabrina Scott (Forward of the Year in Sweden 2008/09) She will arrive the 25of october. The only all-new player this season is National Team player Josefin Olheim, who brings a lot of experience and toughness to our team. With this roster we feel we should have a good shot at winning the national championship in Sweden.
This tournament is a great way for us to prepare for a very important season with a lot of high expectation on our part. Both the fact that we will play tough high-quality teams and the fact that we have to travel to another country to play are important to us. The uncertainty of unfamiliar teams and players in combitation with the high quality of these teams and players makes up for an excellent setting for our pre-season preparations. We are still more than a month away from our opening game in the swedish league, so our focus during these first preparation games will be mainly on our basics, but since we are preparing for a championship season, we are going to do all we can to win right from the start here in Finland.
